The Digital Makers Competition finished with a bang, as participants showcased their innovation and creativity during an exciting Demo Day. With $10k in micro-grants and an additional $2k in prize money up for grabs by presenting teams, the event was a testament to the power of digital innovation and collaboration within UNSW’s student, staff, research and alumni networks.

Among the standout winners were MindFrame Makers and their product PsycheGuard, who clinched the Judges Award for Social Impact and the People’s Choice Award. Alfred Tan from Nautilus and Rahm Ranjan from Motion Track were recipients of the two UNSW Founders Awards for the Novel Use of Emerging Technology.

Congratulations to all participants who poured their time, energy, and creativity into this competition!

We received 160 applications, and 60 individuals and teams were selected to compete, representing a wide array of disciplines and skill levels. The unique aspect of this competition was its inclusivity and accessibility. Open to all students and staff from various disciplines, it did not require any prior skills or pre-formed teams. This competition served as a platform for individuals passionate about digital innovation, enabling both novices and seasoned professionals to showcase their talents.

Facilitated by UNSW Founders, the competition offered participants a series of workshops, feedback sessions, and mentoring opportunities. Over the course of six weeks, participants honed their digital prototyping skills and worked tirelessly to refine their projects, focusing on progress, community contribution, creativity, innovation, and usability.

The highlight of the competition was undoubtedly the Demo Day, which attracted over 100 attendees eager to witness the presentations of the 10 finalists. From early-stage concepts to polished prototypes, each presentation demonstrated the dedication and vision of the digital makers.

The Digital Makers Competition has not only showcased the immense talent within our community but also ignited a passion for innovation that will continue to thrive in the years to come.
