2024 Peter Farrell Cup Top 10 finalists announced

Come along to see the top 10 pitch at Finals Night on September 10

Following a vibrant pitch-fest, the top 10 finalists have been decided for the 24th Peter Farrell Cup (PFC). UNSW’s longest-running student-led and teams-based competitive ideas program is designed to fast-track the next generation of entrepreneurs.

In the biggest PFC to date, 113 applications were received with a record-breaking 97 student teams selected. Teams participated in a series of experiential workshops to help build the skills and mindset necessary to test, integrate, pitch, and potentially launch a real business. Each team was also matched with an industry mentor to enhance their personal growth and knowledge.

If you’re UNSW a student, staff, or alumni and you have a startup or an idea for one, sign up for our FREE Coach & Connect service and meet with a top startup expert to help you at any stage in your journey.

Last week, the teams pitched their ideas in the preliminary Pitch Fests, with the top 10 now chosen to compete for a share of $20,000 at the Finals Night on September 10. RSVP here.

The Peter Farrell Cup 2024 finalists:

Aetheris Innovations

At Aetheris Innovations, simplicity meets innovation. Their product combines a biocompatible polymer with Copper Oxide (CuO) to adsorb hydrogen sulfide (H2S). These polymer microparticles, encapsulating CuO nanoparticles, are placed in enteric capsules that dissolve in the colon, offering an efficient solution to a significant medical challenge.

Barista Bro

Barista Bro is set to transform the coffee experience with their portable, self-contained coffee machine. This device brews barista-quality coffee on the go without the need for large electricity sources or external cooktop setups, catering to coffee enthusiasts who demand excellence anytime, anywhere.

Dodie.ai

Dodie.ai is revolutionizing education with its AI-driven feedback system for student writing. Initially targeting HSC English, Dodie.ai automates repetitive essay marking tasks, allowing teachers to focus on more interactive and personalized teaching. This tool enhances educational outcomes by making high-quality feedback accessible to all students.

Funwattle

Funwattle combines technology and gamification to make speech therapy engaging for children. This SaaS platform connects therapists with parents, tracking a child's progress and reinforcing therapy sessions through interactive games. Funwattle improves learning outcomes while providing speech pathology service providers with predictive analytics to boost success rates and efficiency.

Hakkere Medical

Hakkere Medical is enhancing cardiac care with an innovative add-on for existing ECG machines. This device filters out "motion artifact," ensuring accurate readings even in moving vehicles, addressing a critical need in emergency medical services for reliable ECG readings.

Heimdall

Heimdall leverages AI technology to enhance beach safety. Their software detects swimmers caught in rip currents at unpatrolled beaches, providing real-time alerts to nearby lifeguards. Heimdall's solution aims to reduce drowning incidents and improve response times, addressing a significant gap in beach safety.

Psyber

Psyber is developing scalable technology solutions at the intersection of cybersecurity and people. Their early-stage app uses AI integrations to become the ultimate cybersecurity tool for Australians, offering robust protection against digital threats.

Resdemou

Resdemou offers a novel approach to document security. Instead of storing documents in a single vault, each document is placed in its own micro-vault. This method ensures that attackers must breach each document individually, making mass breaches impossible and significantly enhancing security.

Viridescent

Viridescent installs sustainable biodiesel production facilities on farms, allowing them to produce their own diesel. Additionally, the micro-algae used in these facilities purify water and can be repurposed as nutrient-rich biomass for fertilizer, providing a multifaceted approach to sustainability.

Waveworks

Waveworks addresses the underutilization of tidal energy systems with minimal environmental impact. Their innovative design uses a floating platform anchored to the ocean floor. As the tide rises, the platform's movement drives a shaft connected to a gearbox, which then powers a generator to create electricity efficiently.
