Navigating O Week like a Pro: UNSW Student Survival Tips
Welcome to UNSW T2 O Week, folks! Are you ready to have the time of your life? Well, before you dive headfirst into the sea of freebies and parties, here are a few survival tips to make sure you don't drown in the process.
Plan ahead: Before O Week starts, take a look at the schedule of events and plan out which activities you want to attend. This will help you make the most of your time and ensure that you don't miss anything important, like the UNSW Founders SDG Challenge 2023 👇
Designed for UNSW students to tackle sustainability challenges from Taronga Zoo and the Poverty & Inequality Partnership.
💰Win cash from a $7,000 prize pool, while making a real impact in the local community in just one day.
🍔And here's an added perk: the event is fully catered, ensuring you and your fellow participants can focus wholeheartedly on the challenge without worrying about meals!
🎒Get organized: Make sure you have all the necessary materials, such as a notebook and pen, to take notes during orientation sessions. But let's be real, you'll probably be too busy Instagramming all the cool stuff you're getting for free.
💭Be open-minded: O Week is a great opportunity to meet new people and try new things. Be open to new experiences and take advantage of the many programs and events that are offered. Who knows, you might find your new best friend or cofounder.
Why not consider participating in the Peter Farrell Cup? UNSW’s most prestigious competitive early-stage ideas program that is fast-tracking the next generation of entrepreneurs and start-ups.
Students and HDR candidates benefit from training, industry mentorship, and the chance to compete for a share of $20K cash to kick start their business. Applications are open and close on 12 June. More info here
🛁Take care of yourself: O Week can be a lot of fun, but it can also be overwhelming. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking time to relax and recharge. We suggest checking out the newly refreshed Quad Food Court, situated conveniently near the MCIC.
🕺Get involved: Joining clubs and societies is a great way to meet like-minded people and make the most of your university experience. During O Week, take the time to check out the different clubs and societies that are available and see which ones interest you. And don't be shy, if you're not sure about something, just ask. Like "Is this the Harry Potter fan club or just a group of people who really like owls?"

🙋♀️Don't be afraid to ask for help: If you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, don't hesitate to reach out to the O Week staff or student ambassadors for help. They're there to support you and make your transition to university as smooth as possible. Just don't ask them to help you find your lost phone, they're not miracle workers.
🎢 Remember: O Week is a time to have fun, make new friends, and learn about the resources and opportunities available to you as a UNSW student. With a bit of planning and a positive attitude, you'll be well on your way to a successful university experience. Just remember to enjoy the ride, and don't take yourself too seriously!
