Entrepreneur-in-Residence Spotlight 🔦 Dr Peter Cronin
At UNSW Founders, we are incredibly fortunate to have a team of Entrepreneurs-in-Residence supporting our startups through their innovation journey. In this series, we’ll be showcasing each of our Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, chatting to them about why they love mentoring up-and-coming talent and the lessons they’ve learnt along the way.
This week, we chatted to Dr Peter Cronin, a UNSW alum, founder, investor, innovator, and previous winner of the UNSW Founders Peter Farrell Cup.
Dr Peter Cronin has been working in medicine, technology and business, personally and professionally, for more than 25 years.
Giving him a unique edge when it comes to mentoring, Dr Cronin is also an experienced startup founder himself – he is the co-founder of Prospection, an innovative data analytics company that bootstrapped for many years before raising external capital. Working primarily in the pharmaceutical industry, Prospection uses data analysis, software, and algorithms to gain insights and actionable steps from real world evidence.
With all this experience behind him, Dr Cronin has a unique perspective on what startups need. Dr Cronin shared with us why he’s passionate about supporting founders.
“I am passionate about supporting founders to build successful businesses in health, having been a founder, doctor and patient myself. Healthcare innovation is hard but rewarding and interesting. I believe Australia has huge potential to build big and impactful companies, and health specific programs like the 10x Accelerator Program are an important component of this.”
When it comes to mentoring and supporting founders, Dr Cronin likes to take an approach of clarity and ambition.
“I try to get founders to get clear on what they want to achieve with the business whilst trying to raise their ambitions. I try to ground my advice in a commercial and pragmatic way.”
